MASTERS' SERIES WITH JOHN KASTNER: MR. INTERVIEW

Still from Life With Murder

Welcome to the next session of the much-awaited Masters’ Series from DOC Toronto – a special on the Art and Craft of the Interview… from the Master – John Kastner! For one night only, John will be on hand to give a freewheeling talk on how he uses the interview to get deep into his characters’ lives and how he “burrows deeper to peel back the layers” – don’t miss this rare opportunity to gain insight into the techniques and experiences of one of Canada’s most lauded documentary filmmakers.

John Kastner, Producer, Director and Writer of LIFE WITH MURDER, has won three documentary Emmys -- more than any other individual in the history of Canadian television-- for his feature-length documentaries for CBC-TV, FOUR WOMEN, FIGHTING BACK and THE LIFER AND THE LADY. In 2007 the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television gave him its lifetime Achievement Award. His recent documentary for CTV, MONSTER IN THE FAMILY won several international awards including a Special Jury Prize at the Houston International Film Festival. His films have been screened at major film festivals including Berlin, Chicago, San Francisco and Hot Docs. Kastner’s subjects range widely from extremely dark films to wildly comical ones.

John's Master Class will take place from 6pm-9pm on Monday, July 12th, 2010 at Camera Bar, Toronto's premiere lounge and screening venue. Complimentary appetizers will be served midway through the evening and a cash bar will be open for this private class. Please join us at 5pm for a cocktail!

THE MASTER SERIES: FILMMAKERS TALKING TO FILMMAKERS
: DOC Toronto brings you the Masters’ Series of workshops where leading Canadian filmmakers talk informally on the art and craft of documentary filmmaking. Each director speaks on a theme, and, showing us clips from their films, takes us through their techniques to demystify the process of building the director’s vision. Candid discussions, freewheeling sessions and honest discovery. You can’t afford to miss this no matter what level of filmmaking you’re at!

Some experience in documentary filmmaking is necessary – space is limited.

Purchase of a ticket includes GST, processing fees and appetizers at the Masters' Series. There will be a cash bar.
